Thrifty Weekend

The Vintage Bazaar takes place this Sunday at the Congress Theater in Chicago. TVB is a flea market showcasing tons of treasures from dozens of vendors — from home accents to jewels, clothing to collectibles. I love flea markets because you can usually bargain with the vendors on the price of most items — this makes some people anxious but what's the harm in asking? What's nice about this event (besides the goodies you can snag) is the suggested donation at the door is only $2.

I am always on the lookout for interesting items for the home, like antlers to place on a stack of books, or beautiful mercury glass pieces to hold candles, plants or odds & ends. I also love finding seemingly random pieces to use as I see fit — like these brass lamp parts that could double as plant stands, or to display perfume bottles. It's always fun to peruse the vintage watch cases — Steve and I have found some really nice pieces at flea markets or vintage stores so it's always worth a look!
