Steve and I were seeing the sights in San Francisco today! We've been here before but neither of us had been to touristy spots, like Alcatraz! We took an afternoon ferry out and we are so glad we did, it's like walking onto a movie set! There's so much history and amazing stories — a tour guide even told us that since the island is made of bedrock, occupants of the island didn't feel the Great San Fran earthquake of 1906, or the one in 1989. Funny he should mention it ... while we were on The Rock, San Fran had a 4.2 magnitude earthquake! We didn't feel a thing, but did feel the aftershock around 10:30pm (a first for both of us! It was strange and we actually laughed in disbelief).

After our three-hour-tour, we walked down to a great little spot I heard had $1 oysters and $5 pints during happy hour. Hog Island Oyster Co. was clearly popular during these Monday and Thursday deals, but well worth the 10 person wait. We shared a couple dozen of the Blue Pools and a couple seasonal brews. We left full and happy and ready to take on wine country tomorrow!
